covid

Many people are curious what the winter of 2020 will look like with Covid on the rise in many countries. Does anyone really know what to expect? I don’t think so.

During the hot summer months many crowded beaches worried people and it made perfect sense based on what is known about how covid spreads. Any grouping of people is a risk and should be avoided.

Here we are now about to celebrate a weird Halloween and most people in cooler areas will start hunkering down. Besides Halloween, there’s Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years right around the corner. It’s only logical to assume that if cases continue to rise rather than fall we’re in serious trouble.

People will continue to shop online and many packages will be delivered over the next few months. Retail stores are in trouble for so many reasons but most of all people just don’t want to visit a store when something can be purchased online. Lots of businesses and products do require a person to visit the store – try on clothing, test drive a car, tour a new home, and more. There are many things that can be done virtually but it’s just not the same.

Although people are sick of being at home all the time in many cases it’s still not safe to travel. Airlines and virtually any travel-based business is hurting and the situation is not changing. Even as restrictions are lifted people still have to be willing to go somewhere, spend the money, and accept any quarantine restrictions.

For some reason people still won’t wear masks diligently and in other cases it’s a fashion item rather than a safety item. It’s a strange time. Honestly, if the sun was burning people’s eyes out and sunglasses had to be worn or become blind there wouldn’t be debates and riots about it. If people could see covid I guess it would be different but it’s shouldn’t be that way. Covid is worse because it can be passed around so easily.

Winter based activities like skiing may not be as affected by covid as a summer-based attraction but recent news says otherwise. People wearing masks and coverage in general isn’t an issue when skiing. Outdoor seating at the top of a mountain actually sounds pretty good to me. Hopefully people can still afford a ski trip and be allowed to travel to their favorite places.

International travel is surely not going to change in the next few months. Countries are each dealing with internal issues and allowing in external guests is risky. Until there is regular and instant covid testing and/or a proven vaccine it’s tough to say when international travel will return to normal. Just when people finally decided to take that trip they just can’t go – it’s a hard pill to swallow.
